Question by Andy W: Is there any hope of the acrimony between Rangers and Celtic fans subsiding?
Is there any hope that the (sometimes intense) bad-feeling between Rangers and Celtic fans will subside, or is that unlikely?
As the political situation in Northern Ireland makes progress, will that defuse the tension between the two teams?
If not, what would be necessary to defuse the tension, or is such defusion impossible?
I am a newcomer in Glasgow. I don’t know the full history and background of the situation, and hence I am asking this question.
Does anyone have any views?

but whats wrong with a bit of rivalry anyway ?
doubt there will ever be a totaly harmonious outcome with celtic and rangers . but in a way im glad cuz i like the disslike .. it wouldnt be fun if everyone liked each other . lol

no way! Both sets of clubs and supporters are too stepped in history for there to be any chance of that happening and both sets of supporters have hated each other for too long
Yes, i think on sunday when rangers beat celtic both sets of supporters will applaud rangers of the pitch, then the fans will all meet up and have a jolly old knees up before congratulating and comiserating one another then heading home peacefully, then going to work in the morning and haveing some lighthearted banter with one another.
i think it already has a little but you’ll always have the diehard biggots on both sides

with the vast majority of old firm fans, it’s just banter and there is no real hatred but unfortunately for scottish football ,there is nope hope of ridding either side of the debate of that small percentage of biggoted fans and the bile and hatred that they spew.
thank god that they are in the small minority and most fans are just decent folks who pretend that they hate the opposite team but when it boils down to it, they only love thier own team
Rangers and Celtic WILL ALWAYS BE RIVALS….n.o.r.m.a.l.
just imagine there were never the problems with religion(which i dont have)…they would always have been Glasgow rivals anyway..every country has their rivals…
What you have to think is…not all old firm fans are sectarian..so i think your question is quite bigoted to tell you the truth..
It might lighten but it will never go away.
